Measure Description
The number of certified Small Business Enterprises (SBE) is captured in the Oracle database and will be updated quarterly. It represents the available certified SBE firms ready to do business with the City. Businesses become SBE-certified when they are ready to compete for upcoming work. The Procurement Department aims to increase this number by 5 percent annually through its business outreach events.Measure Importance
It is important to the community that our Small Business Enterprises are identified and are receiving contract awards. Certification is advantageous to small businesses and enables them to be more competitive. When Small Business Enterprises do business with the City, the local economy is supported and vendors are successful. The City leadership consider this a gauge in good business practices. This is a vehicle for leveling the playing field between large and small businesses.Measure Chart
Explanation of Performance
It is important to note that firms are SBE-certified for a three year period and must be recertified in order to count. A good way to maintain this number is to make every effort to support Small Business Enterprises in submitting responses to solicitations. This is why the City’s Procurement Department holds business outreach events to promote upcoming business opportunities. These events are a collaborative effort between Procurement and City project managers to market upcoming work.
